2025 classes we offer

At Dance On Academy we make sure to cater for different levels, abilities and intended pathways. We offer a variety of mainstream classes for beginner through to advanced students and encourage and nurture students whether they are dancing for fun or to make a career out of it. We also offer exam classes as well as performance classes (troupes, solos, duos and trios) for those students who want to take their dance training to the next level.

Tiny Tots

Offered from walking through to 2 years of age, our Tiny Tots classes introduce the foundations of dance in a fun and nurturing environment. We use plenty of props and familiar songs to gently introduce your little one into a group class as well as increase confidence and self-esteem. Parent/guardian/adult help is required for this class.

Tiny Tots are not involved in the end of year concert.

-4/5 year old ballet (30 minute class)

Classical Ballet:

At Dance On Academy we provide ballet classes from age 2 through to advanced students. Classical ballet provides a foundation for all dance styles and builds on strength, artistry, musicality, discipline, posture, coordination, control, awareness, poise and elegance (just to name a few). Ballet helps students develop correct technique, which in turn limits strain and injury. We highly recommend that all students participate in ballet training and if wanting to take your dancing to the next level, also participate in ballet exam classes.

Pre-pointe and Pointe Work:

Pre-pointe and Pointe work are also available as students progress with their classical ballet training. Pre- pointe classes are usually taken from around the age of 10/11 to help correctly develop strength, flexibility and control in the correct muscles for pointe work.

Pointe work is introduced to students who have reached an appropriate age, level of technique, strength and control. An assessment by both the teachers at Dance On Academy and a dance physiotherapist must be passed before a student may begin pointe work so the student is safely able to dance in pointe shoes.

It is recommended that a student undertake ballet as well as ballet exam classes from around the age of 7/8 to ensure readiness to purchase their first pair of pointe shoes at around the age of 12/13.

Classical Ballet Examinations:

At Dance On Academy we offer classical ballet exam classes in the Australian Teachers of Dancing (A.T.O.D) syllabus that can be taken separately from our mainstream ballet classes. Exam classes are compulsory for our soloists and duo/trio students on our Performance Team (from Grade One or 7/6 years of age). Students undertaking exam classes strive for perfection as they prepare for their examination each year.

Jazz:

Jazz is a popular dance style which is fun and fast moving. It is enjoyed by people of all ages and uses high energy music to promote flexibility, fitness and current jazz technique. This style usually starts with an aerobic warm-up, and during class, works on flexibility, isolations, co-ordination, turning, jumping and travelling skills.

Tap:

Tap is a fun and energetic dance style that makes a statement with sound. Tap dancing is a great activity for fitness and enjoyment at all ages. It encourages development of good rhythm, timing, fast footwork and clarity.

Hip Hop:

Hip Hop is a fun and energising style based on street dance. Fast moving and musically complex, this style is on offer for students from Grade Prep, with choreography inspired by recent release music and video clips. Hip hop can be enjoyed by people of any age and any skill level.

Commercial

A Dance on Academy we offer commercial dance to students in Year 8+. Commercial dance is becoming increasingly popular in the dance world. It is a blend of dance styles, including hip hop, jazz and a touch of contemporary. Commercial dance is the type of dance you might see on music videos, TV shows, commercials and at concerts. It is energetic, flashy, entertaining and a whole lot of fun.

Contemporary/Lyrical:

At Dance On Academy we offer a combined contemporary and lyrical class which works on a variety of open-minded movement vocabulary limited only by the teacher/choreographer’s imagination. Both styles explore and push responses or reactions to music and are also a tool for dancers to strengthen their bodies, while increasing mobility, flexibility and agility. Contemporary and lyrical both promote self-expression. Contemporary/Lyrical dance classes are on offer for Grade 3 and above.

Acrobatics:

Our acrobatics classes work to each student’s current abilities and future potential in a safe and nurturing environment. Acrobatics classes will focus on strength and flexibility as well as simple tumbling and balancing to begin with before moving onto more advanced skills and tricks. All new tricks and tumbles are only introduced when appropriate strength and coordination are achieved. Examples of skills which may be worked on are handstands, walkovers, aerials, hand springs and flips.

Performance Classes:

Performance work in troupes, solos, duos and trios are available for those students who love to perform and want to continue to gain confidence and improve their dance skills and performance quality. Our performance team will participate in a number of dance eisteddfods throughout the year as well as have performance opportunities at showcases and community events. These are always great fun and work on teamwork, resilience, drive and give opportunity for students to create great frtiendships. Students who are part of our performance team may also be invited to participate as a soloist or in a duo/trio.

There are requirements to undertake performance classes. Please see our Performance Team and Exam Handbook for further information.

Dance Conditioning:

These classes are open for students from Grade 3 and above and are highly recommended for students who want to further their dance training. They focus on strength, control and flexibility as well as promoting safe dance practises and injury prevention.
